About Us

The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) is a statutorily created distinct budgetary office of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services (PSS). OLA is responsible, in accordance with applicable laws and under the supervision and direction of the Deputy Secretary, for providing legal consultation and representation to the other offices within PSS. These offices include the Office of State Police, the Office of Motor Vehicles, the Office of State Fire Marshal, and the Office of Management and Finance for PSS. OLA also provides legal services to various boards and commissions under PSS, which include the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission, Highway Safety Commission, Municipal Police Officers’ Supplemental Pay Board of Review, the Firemen’s Supplemental Pay Board of Review, the Louisiana Uniform Construction Code Council, the Manufactured Housing Commission, the Board of Private Security Examiners, and the Office of the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinators Office.
